What About Those Stats – Millers v Fleetwood

Rotherham United got their second home league defeat of the season today when Fleetwood Town took all three points at the New York Stadium.

But what do the stats from the game tell us?

Possession wise the Millers had fifty-eight per cent to Fleetwood’s forty-two and the percentage was exactly the same in the duels, though the visitors got fifty-one per cent in aerial duels. Rotherham had six corners to Town’s two and our passing accuracy in our opponents half came out at fifty-three per cent with Fleetwood getting forty-six per cent.

The Millers had nineteen shots at goal, five of which were on target and two went in while our visitors had nine shots with five on target – four of those were goals and the other was the shot that came back off our ‘keeper and was put in on the rebound. Shots inside the box for the hosts were thirteen.

Defence wise our tackle rate success was eighty-three percent to the Cod Army’s seventy-five per cent and we had fourteen clearances to their forty-one. Fifteen fouls were conceded by Town, nine by the Millers and there were three yellow cards shown all the the visitors.

After Tuesday’s emphatic victory over Doncaster Rovers the result today was disappointing. We definitely looked out of sorts and Fleetwood’s centre-forward, Moran, ran the show. I thought their equaliser had a hint of offside about it, though I’ve not seen it back while some decisions by referee Craig Hicks left a lot to be desired – it was the first time he’d been in charge of a Rotherham game, let’s hope it’s a long time before we see him again.
