‘We Are In A Good Place’ Says Warne

|

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne says that now the pre-season friendlies are over it is time to sit down with the players next week and tell them what the club hope to achieve in the coming season.

‘It wasn’t as great a performance tonight as it was earlier in the week,’ the Millers Boss said after the one-nil loss last night to Middlesbrough, ‘but I think when we’ve got our best eleven out then we’ve got a really good team. Hopefully I think we can have an enjoyable season.’

Speaking to iFollow Warney repeated again that he was hoping to have two in early next week – on last night’s showing possibly the two Trialists who played could also be in with a shout – he also said he had felt it difficult to get his ‘mojo’ back after the disappointing end to last season but getting the crowd back in for the games against Newcastle and Middlesbrough has helped him and the lads.

Saying he has hope Warne said that his family lift him saying, ‘I have a good relationship with the Chairman, the lads lift me, the staff lift me. I had a nineteen year old centre-half playing against some million-studded players out there tonight, that lifts me and the way we played on Tuesday night especially with our two attacking-wingers gives me hope that we are doing something right.

‘Everyone’s re-energised for the start next week,’ the Boss said. ‘I think we are in a good place although it is going to be a tough league with some very good sides in it but that doesn’t mean we aren’t going to be one of them.’

Of course when we have positives we can always find negatives and the negatives after last night is the injury problem that has suddenly crept up on us. Michael Ihiekwe could be out for a few weeks with a quod problem, we already have ‘number two’ goalkeeper out with the same problem and last night Viktor Johansson had to be replaced – if he has a serious problem we are suddenly down to one goalkeeper. Angus MacDonald and Curtis Tilt aren’t fit. It looks like we have had offers accepted for new players with at least two coming in next week – but are they going to be fit enough to go straight into the fray of League One football?

Finishing on a positive our youngsters (and I still call them that) have been getting game time throughout pre-season and a couple of them do look like they can step up – perhaps it’s a good job.

Up The Millers.
