Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne thought today’s four-two home loss was the teams ‘worst performance of the season’.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield after the game the Millers Boss said, ‘We weren’t at our best today. We looked a bit laboured and when we went in at two-one at half-time I didn’t think our overall play deserved that.’

Now I didn’t think we did too badly in the first half. OK some of our passes went astray and we probably had to defend more than Fleetwood but we were also creating chances.

‘After they scored their second goal then a screaming free-kick,’ Warney carried on, ‘I thought the belief drained out of the lads which is a worry. I think it’s been our worst performance of the season but I still think, though we didn’t play great, we created enough chances to win.

‘I think we got sucked into their pace of the game.’

And I think he’s right. Fleetwood were obviously going to slow things down once they went ahead and it seemed to frustrate our players – it frustrated us in the stands watching – but it’s what teams are going to do and I really think we have to know how to up our game when that happens.

Carrying on Warne said, ‘They (Fleetwood) took their goals really well and we didn’t seem right on song today. Too many players, today, weren’t playing at their best.’

With the Boss saying he didn’t like what he saw in the first half I can’t work out why he didn’t change it for the second half – because he didn’t it just stayed the same – even when the subs came on.

Warne said that Richard Wood wasn’t a substitution he really wanted to make saying the Millers’ skipper had ‘tight calves’ – to be honest that was really the only substitution I understood today. Morton was all over Woody and he couldn’t keep up with him and I, for one, was surprised when someone else hadn’t taken over that job at half-time. Ollie Rathbone, in my opinion, was one of the better players on the pitch and boos rang out when he was subbed and I can’t work out why Will Griggs wasn’t on earlier plus there were a couple of players I wondered how they were still on the pitch at the end.

  • poor inquest needed fans restless gaz no one seemed to know their jobs needs sorting now im afraid gaz up the millers drmot fox

    • Do you think no one knew their jobs because there were so many having an off game or that there were people playing out of position, Dermot?

  • previous doncaster games rufc 8 for against o , then winning 2…1 and then concede 4 ,its more than having an off game , , we have been told how good the squad is and the depth ,to pick from and the future expectations this season,, and we now have had the worst game this season as reported by warne , what he has to pick from ,team squad shouldent let this happen , ,pro players ,well thaught of, can some of the answer rest with the manager , and his direction of play,.does he have to wait for the final whistle before he explains , i know he likes to talk about fish and chips , as well, but the future is now looking different ,does the manager select his choice ? does the assistant manager have a say , would the assistant manager be better at picking a team ,and all subs used , what has to happen for ,the rest of the season to be controlled, as it must be , the answers are all within the club , use what we have got, but dont lose 4/2 when when winning .make the “your comment “, well done ,good game, , the fans are happy, and want more ,

    • But Rotherham fans are never happy Jeff! It seems we set out playing one way and we don’t seem to be able to change it, even when fetching subs on. I think it’s obvious to most of us that three at the back doesn’t work in this league, yet, we still see it. It’s a case of two steps forward one back at the moment – let’s hope it doesn’t become one step forward two back.

  • hi gaz if they are out of position they had better get in pretty quick and by to morrow night the lincoln city of this world wont be bothered about rotherham utd in four weeks time our keeper must be cringeing picking it out four times your lad is right get four at the back and woodie will make the back right thank god fergie is back praying here up the millers dermot fox

    • I think Harding was out of position on Saturday, I think Sadlier was out of position too. Not sure Ferguson will be back, Dermot, though I hope he is.
