Warne ‘We Suffocated Ipswich’

|

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne was pleased with his players after this evenings two-nil away win at Ipswich – and why shouldn’t he be? After losing the man you thought would be playing in goal in the warm-up his team went on to play a solid game for all ninety plus minutes.

‘We sort of suffocated Ipswich,’ the Millers Boss told Radio Sheffield after watching his team go top of League One. ‘We got two good goals and on another night we might have had another couple. Ipswich are a very good team and he (Paul Cook) is a very good manager but tonight they played against a really good Rotherham side.’

I also believe we were the better side and the side who worked harder this evening to get those three points.

‘It didn’t feel comfortable,’ Warne admitted, ‘but the only downside of the game was that we had a little bit of an indiscipline thing going on when their crowd got onto the ref and he was throwing yellow cards around for fun. But there isn’t much I can fault the lads on.’

Saying he thinks first goal scorer Ben Wiles is the best midfielder in the league he also said he was pleased when he saw the net ripple for Shane Ferguson’s first goal for the club. ‘I wanted a third goal just for my blood pressure. But I’m really pleased and I thought our performance was really good.’

Talking about the fans Warney said, ‘To the two hundred and fifty who came down here mid-week that is some effort.’

Josh Vickers felt his groin in the warm-up and was replaced with Viktor Johansson with it looking like he could be out for a couple of weeks.
