Warne ‘We Looked A Bit Jaded’

|

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne admitted that his squad is ‘stretched’ after a late Joshua Kayode goal saw them get a draw in last night’s pre-season friendly at Salford.

The Millers were without Tom Eaves, Cohen Bramall, Conor Washington, Jamie McCart, Wes Harding and Shane Ferguson although it is hoped all but Eaves will be fit for Saturday’s friendly with Mansfield

Speaking to iFollow after the one-all draw at the Peninsula Stadium the Millers Boss said they have to add to the squad and had been speaking to players all day.

‘We had nine academy players tonight,’ Warney said, ‘and the young lads gave everything they could. When we set these two fixtures up the dream was that we’d start eleven last night and they’d play sixty minutes and the other lads would play the final thirty then we would flip it for the second game.

‘But we did look a bit jaded tonight and I thought Salford played really well. We did ride our luck at times but, all in all, we don’t lose, we don’t pick up any injuries and we got some minutes into players. But we need to freshen them up now because the bigger games are coming.

‘But we came away with a draw tonight, not too sure we deserved it, but we go back into training and try to freshen things up for the weekend.

During the interview Warney said, ‘We’ve been a bit unlucky with a couple of injuries which we don’t normally get blighted with’. We don’t? Not sure about that! We seem to get more training ground injuries than any other team I know.

The Boss also said he’d had a disappointment on the way to the game when a player he was after chose another club while he is speaking to two more potential signings today who is confident of bringing in.
