Rotherham United were knocked out of the third round of the FA Cup on penalties after Queens Park Rangers got a late equaliser in extra time.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield after the cup exit Millers Manager Paul Warne said that he was ‘really proud’ of all his players today.

Admitting that he was a little emotional the Millers Boss said, ‘I thought the lads gave everything today. I thought we were the better side in the first half although they (QPR) created the better chances. I think my goalkeeper kept us in it a couple of times and there were a couple of last ditch tackles and I don’t think we created enough but second half we were a lot better. And, the longer the game went on the fitter and stronger we were.’

And I think that’s right too. We seemed to get better as the game went on and when I thought we’d flag a bit in extra time we actually looked the fitter side.

‘We made changes, we went for it and I was disappointed when it went into extra time. The subs all made an impact and I was really pleased with everyone today. I’m not saying we were the better team but we performed well and we’ve had a right go but it wasn’t enough.’

Warne said that the ‘big’ talking point for him was the penalty that wasn’t given saying, ‘that penalty was a key moment virtually at the death of the game when we could have won it and gone through. I’ve seen it back and it’s definitely a penalty. If it isn’t a penalty I’d rather the ref book my player for diving. Obviously we’re biased but their bench said it’s a penalty, two of their players told me it was a penalty as we were coming off and one of their members of staff apologised. But that doesn’t help the fans who have travelled down here, it doesn’t help me and the owner who wants to win every game and it doesn’t help my dressing room. Chieo (Ogbene) got past the last man in the box and we are three v two in the box which is a good opportunity.  I feel let down today and it’s disappointing for the lads. We’ve probably lost the game because of the officials but we’d rather say how well the lads have performed.

‘I’m pleased with loads of individuals today and I’ve learned a lot about a few players and I’m really pleased plus we’ve not got any injuries.’
