Warne ‘We Gave It Everything’

|

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne told iFOLLOW that he thought his Millers team ‘gave it everything’ against Leeds United this afternoon.

Speaking after the two-one defeat, the Millers Boss said, ‘I thought it was quite an even first half against a very good team. I thought we had threats from set-pieces and I thought we limited them to very few chances in the first half.’

I have to agree. I thought we were the better side in the first half and Semi Ajayi’s goal will go down in New York Stadium history – definitely the Goal of the Season so far.

But then we come to the second half. Why can’t we come out playing like we did the first? I suppose I can understand why we tried to defend a lead against the top of the table side but, let’s be honest, we just aren’t capable of doing that. In my mind we’d have been better coming out and having a go from the off in the second half. It was obvious that’s what Leeds were going to do so why not get in first and counter attack their play?

I thought both Leeds goals could have been avoided and both were defensive errors.

Warney also says that nobody expected us to win against Leeds. No, probably not, but nobody expected us to go in front. So when we do get in front we really have to keep hold of that lead and that is probably by attacking them.

Just a word to referee Tim Robinson – Mr Robinson whenever a Leeds player goes down you don’t have to give them a free-kick, especially when you didn’t see the incident. And can I just also say when a player has his shirt tugged until it tears then maybe, just maybe, he’s being pulled and pushed all the time. Just saying.

Onto Millwall next week – who, as I’m writing this, aren’t doing a bad job in the Cup against Everton.

Shirt pulling is as common as football boots, every team does it, get real laddie.

I’ve not missed many games in the last few years and I feel I can say that Michael Smith has his shirt pulled, tugged and he’s pulled and pushed more than any player I’ve seen.

l just need to know why we cannot play like, in the first half against Leeds. When we play the teams at the bottom of the league. We would be half way up the table by now.if we turned it on then, instead of playing like a pub team. Who had never played togeather before the game.

I said exactly the same Graham Ball – more or less same players yet such a different attitude.
