Warne ‘We Are One Effort Away From Greatness’

|

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne said his Millers side lacked quality in the final third as his they came away from Luton Town with a point from a goalless draw this evening.

Speaking after the game the Millers Boss said, ‘I thought we created enough chances to win not that I’m saying we deserved to. But we didn’t take them.’

That is the story of our season though isn’t it. Week after week we all seem to be saying the same thing. We do not take our chances. So, forgive me, but there was no surprise to me that again we didn’t score – disappointment yes, annoyance definitely but surprised no. Our crossing into the box was, at times, second to none but either there was no one there or we put the ball wide, over, across or just plain missed it.

‘We are talking about half-chances,’ the Gaffer told the Official Site, ‘but at this level they are your chances. And if there was ever a night to win a game it was tonight. Unfortunately, we fell just short.

‘We are one effort away from greatness.’

Before last weekend I did think that the home game against Blackburn and tonight’s game against Luton were, if any, the ones that would save our season. We got two points when we really, really needed at least four if not six.

So, now onto Cardiff and I think trying to get a win there we will need a Wing – well we’ve actually got one of those – and a prayer, probably a lot of prayers.

As the Gaffer says, ‘it’s been ten months of hard slog and now it’s coming down to ninety minutes.’

But that’s football isn’t it.
