Warne Says He Needs All His Players Ready To Play

|

Rotherham United came back from being one down to beating Crewe Alexandra in the Papa John’s Trophy this evening with Millers Manager Paul Warne having put in what we, the fans, are calling the ‘fringe players’ although the Boss himself insists that they are all ‘first team players’.

‘We were comfortably the better side in the second half,’ Warney told IFollow after his team progressed to the next round.’

Speaking about the changes in the team today, the Boss said, ‘I thought they were a bit rusty at the start and not at their best but we aren’t a charity I didn’t give them game time because I thought they needed it, it’s more the fact that I want all the lads to be ready to play. It’s not just eleven players it’s all twenty-two of them and they’ve all got to be ready and prove to me why they should be in the team. And my team are a great group with three of my strikers scoring today. I’m blessed because I’ve got a group who give it everything.’

Asked about JJ (Joshua Kayode) getting his first goal in a Millers shirt, Warney said, ‘We are buzzing. We all went mental when we knew he’d got it and we’re pleased for him. His work ethic was great, his press was good and I’m really pleased with him and how he’s developing.’

Mentioning Angus MacDonald who hasn’t played this season due to illness, Warney said he apologised to the defender saying, ‘I really wanted to get him on tonight and if the score line had been like it finished at seventy minutes I could have got him on. It’s great to have him back and he will get his chance.’
