Warne ‘Really Proud’ After Away Win

|

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne told Radio Sheffield that he was ‘really proud’ of his players today at Derby.

Speaking after their second away win of the season the Millers Boss said he thought his team played well in the first half without making their ‘keeper make any saves. ‘We put some good balls across the box,’ the Gaffer said, ‘but it just didn’t feel like it was going to drop for us.

Saying he expected Derby to raise their game in the second half but it looked like it was going to fizz out to a nil-nil. Luckily for us Jamie Lindsay had two bites at the cherry, a really good chance which he probably should have scored from then from the melee from an unbelievable free-kick from Dan Barlaser we managed to get a goal.

‘I think we’ve been good in recent weeks but just been the wrong side of a goal so it’s good to be on the right side for a change.’

It certainly is. To be honest I’d have been really happy with a point today but to get three and see the team play as they did I’m double that.

And, really, in my eyes I thought we should have gone in front earlier than that when Richard Wood got the ball in the net. It was a late off-side flag that went up so I’m guessing the linesman wasn’t that sure. Watching it back I still think the ball touched Michael Ihiekwe before it got to our captain and therefore he couldn’t have been off-side, could he?

I also think Krystian Belik should have got a second yellow which would have seen the Rams down to ten men when he brought Matt Crooks down who had got away from him which Warney also agreed with saying, ‘We were going berserk on the side of the pitch. That was an absolute professional foul and one hundred per cent a booking. But, because he’d booked him already he didn’t give it. We spoke to the ref (James Linigton) who said for a second yellow it has to be a bit more aggressive than that but I don’t know when that has ever been in the rule.’

This is like when you don’t get booked for a foul in the first minute to me. If it’s a foul then it’s a yellow card however ‘aggressive’ it is or whenever it is committed. Sorry, Mr Linington, but you bottled that one.
