Warne Praise For Defence But Wants More Players In

|

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne had nothing but praise for his defence on Tuesday night that kept a clean sheet in the Carabao Cup win away against Shrewsbury Town.

Speaking to Freeview Warney had particular praise for Clark Robertson who had to play at left-back with Joe Mattock struggling.

‘I thought he played really well,’ the Gaffer said, ‘he’s got a great feel for the game and he was a big part of us controlling the game.

‘It also allowed Woody (Richard Wood) a chance to play whose organisational skills were brilliant.’

Warney went on to talk to Radio Sheffield about recruiting new players before the window shuts early next month saying he feels that he needs to fetch in another centre-half though mainly as back-up. ‘Michael Ihiekwe has probably been our outstanding player during pre-season and the season but if something happened to him then we’re struggling.’

The Gaffer also said that he is still looking for a couple of wide men ideally who could play in a three. The Millers do have bids in for players but Warney wasn’t hopeful with them even though the bids have been increased. But, he is meeting a player before the weekend and hopes to get bids in for others.

‘In the ideal world,’ he said ‘I’d like to get a permanent and a couple of loans in. By this time next week, or close to it, I’d like to think we’d got at least one and maybe two in.’

So are we to expect a couple of players in before the deadline? Maybe one before Saturday? Or will we be hearing that these have ‘fallen through’ too? One thing we do know is that Warney is trying to get players in.
