Warne Not Expecting Season Re-Start In April

|

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne is fully expecting the re-start of this season to be ‘put back again’ when the deadline of 30th April arrives.

All football has been put on hold due to the coronavirus that is sweeping the world with the players, managers and fans all having to wait and see what happens with all next season’s pre-planning going out of the window.

The Millers Boss is known for his early planning and he told the Yorkshire Post that he expects his already made summer schedule will have to be scrapped saying, ‘in fairness, that’s the least of my worries. We had organised everything but once we know when the season ends and the next one starts these things are pretty easy to shift down the calendar.

‘I wouldn’t be surprised if the deadline and starting date got put back again in April and in fairness to the Government and EFL are trying to do what they think is right. But no-one knows at this time what is right and wrong.’

In the world of football it isn’t just actually the organisation of the games that have to be re-scheduled. The Red and White shop has had to close which also doubles up as the ticket office. Next season’s (whenever that will be) season tickets have to be sorted. Wages still have to be paid. I have to presume that the players won’t be training together now, if at all, because of spreading the virus among them. I’d even be surprised if playing ‘behind closed door’ games would be allowed – it’s still twenty-two players close together on a pitch plus the officials plus the people on the bench and impossible to play keeping six feet six inches apart (I’ve learnt that is what two metres is in olden money).

The end of April seems a long way away but really it isn’t. Nobody knows how this horrible, frightening illness is going to pan out and, until we do, I don’t see how we can even think about re-arranging events.

Eventually we will get our football back and life will return to normal – until then Keep Safe.

Up The Millers.

Caz, my prediction of September was if anything optimistic. I also don’t think life will return to “normal”; rather we will have to get used to a new normal but what that might be who knows. By the way I had to chuckle today when some self-employed people posted they weren’t happy that government payments may be based on tax returns as they had understated their income to HMRC to reduce their tax liability. You couldn’t make it up!

It’s a sore point here the self-employed thing as my daughter, brother-in-law and niece are all self-employed and getting nothing.
With the football I can’t think what is going to happen Kevin – I’m not even sure this season will finish any more.
