Warne ‘Monumental Effort’

|

For the second time in a few days Rotherham United were involved in a five goal score line last night which, unfortunately, didn’t end the same way as Saturday’s.

Portsmouth scored in the opening minute with Freddie Ladapo equalising. Pompey scored a second and again Ladapo got an equaliser. Unfortunately for the Millers the hosts got a third and this time, despite trying, there was no coming back for Paul Warne’s lads.

Speaking after the defeat the Gaffer told iFOLLOW that he thought his teams performance deserved more saying, ‘I thought it was a really good game of football with both teams going for it. They scored an early goal, an unbelievable goal, but then I thought we were the stronger side in the first half.’

I thought we were the better side over the whole game and that never give up attitude that is now enveloping the whole team can only mean we win more than we lose.

Carrying on Warney said, ‘At two-two I felt quite comfortable but they scored, I made my double substitution with twenty-five minutes to go and I honestly believed we were going to get something. Then Billy (Jones) pulled his hamstring and we are down to ten men. But it was a monumental effort from my lads.’

I don’t suppose we will ever know if we’d managed to keep eleven players on the pitch we’d have gone on to get something. You’d like to think so but nothing is ever sure in football. Should we have put our last two subs on together? Well, I don’t think you can say aye or nay to that to be honest. I thought it was a good double substitution at the time, in hindsight you could say we should have held one back, but hindsight is something not many of us have.

Warney can’t be anything but proud of his teams efforts last night – two goals away from home isn’t to be sniffed at. It was a shame we played so well and came away with nothing but it happens and we have to keep going.
