Warne ‘Late Goal Mars Performance’

|

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne bemoaned the ‘needless free-kick’ his side gave away in the final minute of the game today that gave Wigan Athletic all three points.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield after the loss at the DW Stadium, the Millers Boss said, ‘I thought our performance was really good. We were well organised and I thought their were some amazing performances today.’

Whoa! We had a very good first half where I would agree with that statement but, I’m sorry to disagree with the Boss, but I thought our second half performance was poor and the majority of the time we were all over the place.

‘My only disappointment was that we gave away that needless free-kick. I thought Chieo (Ogbene) was unplayable and Mickel (Miller) was good down the other side. My centre-halves dealt with everything and for his first league start JJ (Kayode) was pretty exceptional while Smudge (Michael Smith) caused all sorts of problems.’

Chieo had a brilliant first half but we never got the ball to him in the second forty-five where he had very few chances. I think simply said we played football in the first half but didn’t in the second.

‘If I’d have been a neutral today I’d have loved it. I wasn’t best pleased with the lad who smashed Jamie Lindsay and I wasn’t pleased that we had two players injured who had to go to the side and they can’t go back on which is a massive disadvantage. No one wants to take an attacking free-kick with nine players on the pitch.

‘That late goal mars a really good performance.’

No, I don’t think the referee covered himself in glory this afternoon, did you Mr Lewis.
