Warne ‘Lads’ Efforts Should Be Applauded’

|

Rotherham United went to the Vitality Stadium this evening to take on Bournemouth who were in the Premier League last season and despite having chances lost one-nil.

But, Millers Manager Paul Warne still had a smile on his face at the end of the game and was, as always, ‘proud’ of his players.

Speaking to Sky Sports the Millers Boss said, ‘We could have been a bit better in possession but out lads gave a good account of themselves and we are disappointed that we’ve come away with nothing. I’m proud of the team.’

I thought the lads did alright tonight. We had chances and to have chances means you have to get into or around the box, we fought against the wind with our set pieces and, when needed, we defended well enough, apart from the goal.

The Gaffer thought there was a good shout for a penalty when ‘it looked like someone had a nibble’ at Freddie Ladapo and the hosts thought that there was a handball by Richard Wood in the area before that – I think either would have been very harsh if given.

‘I think Bournemouth were happy when the final whistle went and, I know people might think I’m crazy, but I thought we were the better team and created a lot and made them defend a lot,’ Warney said, ‘Our lads’ efforts should be applauded.’

I for one am applauding. Yes, we missed chances but so did Bournemouth. Norwich on Saturday when I’m doubtful we will get as many chances as we did tonight – and those we do get we definitely have to learn to take.
