Warne ‘It’s A Point Earned’

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne said that his side should have taken chances in the first half but thought the way the ‘game panned out’ it was a good point away at Shrewsbury.

Speaking to IFollow after the game at Montgomery Waters Meadow the Millers Boss said, ‘I thought we were at our flamboyant best in the first half and could have gone in two or three up but Shrewsbury were in the ascendency the whole forty-five minutes of the second half.’

And that about sums up the game doesn’t it. I thought we looked comfortable in the first half without playing as well as we have but the Shrews came out fighting in the second half and limited us to few chances.

‘It is a point earned,’ the Millers Boss said, ‘but we will play a lot better. We are top of the league and teams are going to hunt us down and they (Shrewsbury) were definitely up for it in the second half. Our lads didn’t think they played with confidence which is strange as they are top of the league but credit to Shrewsbury who didn’t give them any time on the ball. We didn’t create enough in the second half to win a football game.

‘We had some leggy players tonight and we have illness in the camp and I made changes, not for changes sake, but because I knew the state of the players. (Ben) Wiles and Ollie (Rathbone) are exhausted. We are asking these lads to play at a level every three days at the moment and it’s just taken it’s toll.

‘If you can’t be great and win then you have to do your best and not lose and we came away from this game unscathed with another clean sheet. But we will have to be a lot better on Saturday.’

We certainly will.

I could have named four or five ‘star players’ in the first half but just one in the second half and I think every Miller will know who that is.
