Warne ‘It Was An Entertaining Game’

|

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne thought tonight’s game was ‘really exciting’ played by two really good teams.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield after the one-all draw the Millers Boss said, ‘there were two unbelievable goals against two really good defences but I thought they (Wigan) were more aggressive than us in the first half and we didn’t cross the ball enough. I don’t think we played bad I think they played well.

‘I thought we had more belief on the ball in the second half and apart from their free-kicks I don’t think they caused any threats in the second half. I thought it was an entertaining game it’s just a pity we didn’t win though I’m not complaining about that.

Talking about Ollie Rathbone’s goal Warney said, ‘It was a screamer as was Humphrys for theirs. No ‘keeper would save those.

‘It’s not two points dropped it’s a point gained against a really good team and it sets us up again for Tuesday.’

If I’m being honest I’d have taken a draw before the game and I’d definitely have taken it at half-time. I don’t think we looked ourselves in the first half. There were some poor passes, players not getting towards the ball, defenders standing off when perhaps they should have made that tackle. Our defence also looked a little wobbly at times. But, give them their due, they came out better in the second half and I think a draw was the right result.
