Warne ‘It Was A Good Workout’

|

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne thought his side deserved their three points after beating Bolton Wanderers six-one at the New York Stadium this afternoon.

Despite the scoreline it was the visitors who took the lead on four minutes through a short corner with the Millers Boss telling Radio Sheffield that the set-piece ‘caught us cold’.

It certainly did and it was a body blow so early in the game especially playing a Bolton team who are all newcomers to the club with nobody knowing exactly what to expect.

‘They did cause us problems at times but, in the end,’ Warney said, ‘it was a good workout against a really good Bolton side.’

Although Warney disagrees I feel we could have had more goals – we had a few shots/headers which just skirted over the crossbar, we put some very good crosses into the box and, frankly, we outplayed Bolton and yes, we did get a bit of luck which, on other days, would have been missing – and I always say you make your own luck.

Speaking about the players, the Gaffer said, ‘There were some very good performances today. Wilesy (Ben Wiles) was unlucky not to get Man of the Match and considering he was playing out of position Jake Hastie had a really good game while the subs came on and made us stronger.’

I think it was very much a team effort this afternoon – that’s how it should be and when it is like that we always play well. Yes, you can carry one or two but sometimes last season I thought one or two were carrying the majority. We are a young team and a young team who look hungry.

Onto Tuesday night and let’s see how we perform against a Sunderland side who came from one down away at Accrington today to win three-one.

Don’t you think a lot of people suddenly turned last week – at the ground, at one up we were the best thing since sliced bread then when we lost it was like pandemonium

Great result yesterday – still think we have some way to go but that can only give our players confidence.
