Warne ‘I Thought We Caused Problems’

|

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne admitted to feeling ‘a bit of relief’ after getting three points at home against Ipswich Town today.

Speaking to Sky Sports the Millers Boss said, ‘We have been on a sticky wicket lately and I felt we were just a bit edgy in the first half. We got into the final third but didn’t take our chances and at half-time we told them to relax and in the second half I think we were the team in the ascendency and it was an excellent performance. I thought we caused them loads of problems and deserved the win.

‘I thought Ipswich were a really well coached side and the fact that we’ve got through the game and won I’m beyond happy.

‘We kept creating chances with Jordi (Osei-Tutu) and Chieo (Ogbene) were excellent out wide. It was about the performance today and I thought our lads performed really well. It’s given the lads a real boost.’

Saying that he really wanted to make more substitutions, Warney said, ‘I really wanted to get JJ (Kayode) or Freddie (Ladapo) on but that meant changing my shape which I didn’t want to do and it’s a brave man who takes Smudge off here.

‘The fans turned up in voice today and the whole place looked red. They were loud and got behind the team, gave them a boost.’

He’s not the only one who is feeling relief. It’s been difficult trying to keep a positive tilt on the Millers in the last few weeks and talking to fans before the game there was nobody who thought we’d get a win today. But we did and it was a good win and we looked a lot more like we did when we went on our winning streak earlier this season. We can only do what we can do – and hope other teams help us out.

On the injury front Mickel Miller limped off and it seems he felt his hamstring ‘pop’ which isn’t good news, the worst scenario being it’s the end of his season.
