Warne Going To Enjoy Win

|

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne must be happy getting his first three points on the board even if the game was a bit scrappy.

A Michael Ihiekwe header in time added on from a corner was the only goal of the game at Wycombe this lunchtime with the Millers Boss telling the Official Site that they had been ‘working hard on set-pieces’ in training this week and it paid off.

An even game saw both sides have chances while not really bothering either ‘keeper too much with the Gaffer saying, ‘It was a really difficult game and both teams defended and attacked well on set-pieces and it was no surprise the game was won on one.’

Paul Warne thought the Millers should have scored before the goal that won the game and, admitting that he might be a tad biased, he did think there was only going to be one team that would win.

Warney said he would have been happy with a draw and I think you have to always be that away from home but how good is it that we fought to the end getting the corner then scoring the goal.

‘It gives me great pride that we stuck in until the end,’ the Gaffer said. ‘Wycombe are going to cause teams loads of problems and they had more aggression than our players fighting for every ball. It was a tough game.’

Talking about skipper Michael Ihiekwe the Boss said he was really pleased for him but also said, ‘after missing a sitter in the first half he owed me.

‘I don’t think we competed enough but a win is a win and we will enjoy it.’

Injury wide there wasn’t a problem with Matt Crooks who was subbed early in the second half but it could be that Clark Robertson has a problem with his quod and Richard Wood might have a cracked rib.
