Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne has made his fourth signing of the summer today fetching in defender Billy Jones.
Saying that he will bring the Millers experience, Warney told iFOLLOW that he’s pleased to get the former Sunderland player.
‘Everyone speaks highly of him,’ Warney said, ‘and although I’ve signed him as a right-back, he can play in a few different positions.’
Jones isn’t exactly who I would think fits into Paul Warne’s mould but, saying that, we do need some old heads out there on the pitch and Billy has spent a fair bit of time in the Championship and, I imagine he will be someone for the younger players to look up to, like Richard Wood.
There were other clubs after the thirty-one year old so I think that shows how good Warney is at selling our club to players.
In fact, Jones himself, says that after speaking to the Gaffer he’s excited to be here saying, ‘I’m really looking forward to playing. It’s been quite tough at Sunderland for the last couple of seasons so the way he was selling the club is appealing.’
Although Jones tells us he has been keeping his fitness up during the close season it must be difficult doing that on your own and not with a squad of players. Maybe he might not be as fit as the rest of the Millers players but if we know Warney like we do I don’t think it will be long before he is!
