Warne Disappointed With First Half But Pleased To Win

|

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne told iFOLLOW that he had ‘mixed emotions’ after today’s two-one win away at Accrington Stanley.

Warney said that when the Ben Wiles goal went in he was just thinking ‘oh, please let’s just hang on’ – weren’t we all?!

‘I was disappointed with the first-half performance,’ the Gaffer said, ‘I don’t think we played the conditions very well. But I think our second half performance probably justified a win but to score so late on makes it feel like a bigger win.’

The game never really seemed to get going in the first half – the conditions were awful with the Millers never seeming to get to grips with the wind. But we did do better in the second half, our crosses were better, our set-pieces more like the ones we are used to but to say we deserved the win? I’m not so sure about that.

I, for one, questioned the substitutions today. I thought Michael Smith was causing a few problems in the air in the area and I didn’t think Hakeeb Adelakun had done too badly but boy, was I wrong. Two subs scoring and Ben Wiles, probably the smallest person on the pitch, putting a header away – great stuff! But the Millers know how to keep us, the fans, on their toes – it was a hairy last five minutes today.

‘I was really pleased with the win,’ the Millers Boss said and went on to dedicate it to Adam Thompson’s Dad who sadly passed away earlier this week and who the Millers fans had a round of applause for at the game.
