Warne ‘Difficult To Get That Breakthrough’

|

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne told iFollow that he was ‘pretty frustrated’ after this evening’s goalless draw with Wycombe Wanderers.

‘I thought our performance was pretty good,’ the Millers Boss said after the game at the New York Stadium, ‘though our first half was a bit nervy in a game that looked like neither team wanted to make a mistake. But I thought we were really in the ascendancy in the second half and I thought a goal would come but unfortunately it didn’t.’

I think Warney has it spot on with the first half and that from the hour mark we were the better side but, to be honest, I didn’t actually think we would score. I thought our headers were on the weak side, our shots were easily blocked and that we didn’t get at their ‘keeper enough.

‘You can see we are two good teams in this league,’ Warney carried on.

Really?

‘Wycombe defend properly as we do,’ Warne said, ‘and reduce you to very few chances. It was difficult to get that breakthrough tonight. But I can’t knock the lads’ efforts.’

The Boss also said that Richard Wood was ‘hit off the ball’ after fifteen minutes which the Millers’ skipper thought should have been a penalty and he was struggling the whole game to move. Ben Wiles has a gash down his leg from his thigh to below his knee while Joe Mattock went off early in the first half after going over on his ankle. And, although Angus MacDonald has been training on the grass it seems he is still a way from playing. Good news is that Michael Ihiekwe will be fit to travel to MK Dons on Saturday.
