Warne ‘At Times We Were Unplayable’

|

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne said he was ‘quite pleased’ to get in at half-time nil-nil against Bristol Rovers this afternoon at the New York Stadium.

Luckily for the Millers fans the game didn’t stay like that and Rotherham upped it a gear or two in the second half to deservedly earn all three points and keep a clean sheet.

Speaking after the three-nil win, the Millers Boss told iFOLLOW that he thought Bristol Rovers had played really well in the first half.

‘We were good in parts in the first half but not overall but I thought we were really good in the second half,’ Warney said, ‘and there was pace and energy about our play. We were unplayable at times and got stronger as the game went on.

‘Most of the lads can go home pleased with their days work today.’

And they can. I thought the team looked confident today and played together as a team – United. Daniel Iversen did what he had to do when he had to do it, I thought Matthew Olosunde had a great game as did Ben Wiles. Woody and Michael Ihiekwe stood tall. Michael Smith and Kyle Vassell grabbed a goal apiece and did well off the ball too. And I don’t know who this ‘new’ Dan Barlaser is but I want him to stay! He was brilliant today again. Matt Crooks had a good game – he looked knackered when he went off but, then again, he looks like that when he comes on doesn’t he! Hakeeb Adelakun did well today on his home debut, got some good balls in, tracked back when needed and what can we say about Chieo Ogbene? I thought he had a quiet first half for his standards but he sprung to life in the second half getting forward all the time, two good crosses in for the first two goals and it was fitting, in my eyes, that this lad scored the third, and his first as a Miller this afternoon. The subs played their part too – Freddie Ladapo setting up the third goal, Jamie Lindsay an able replacement for Crooks and wasn’t it nice to see Julien Lamy get some minutes? Well done all!

The first half was quite entertaining I thought although, in my mind, we had more of the ball than Rovers and they didn’t really make Iversen work much. We won the second half with sheer determination, guts and glory.

Rotherham United – we’re top of the league.
