Vital Rotherham Man Of The Month – February

For the second month running Vital Rotherham voters voted for a different Man of the Match for all our five games in February – which, I think, really tells you that it is a team effort out on that pitch every week.

Our first game of the month was at the New York Stadium when AFC Wimbledon were the visitors and a sterling performance from Semi Ajayi saw him get the votes after the two-nil win.

For our away win at Scunthorpe Richie Towell got the deserved accolade and for his great contribution and first goal in our three-one home win over Oxford the votes went to Anthony Forde.

We travelled to then leaders Shrewsbury for the next game winning one-nil and for his performance in goal including keeping the clean sheet you voted ‘keeper Marek Rodak as best player.

Our last game in February was the South Yorkshire derby when Doncaster Rovers were in town. The Millers fought back to keep their unbeaten record and for his free-kick that led to the equaliser and for having the nerve in the final seconds of a tense game to step up and take, and score, the penalty Joe Newell got the Man of the Match award.

So, when it’s like this we go to the actual votes – and it was close – but with one more vote than Richie Towell February’s Player of the Month goes to JOE NEWELL.

The twenty-four year old joined the Millers from Peterborough in August 2015 and has made over one hundred appearances for us since then. This season he’s scored six goals in thirty-three games for the Millers – and might now be our new penalty taker!

I, for one, am hoping a contract to keep him at the New York Stadium is soon sorted.
