Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne said that he was proud after his team won at Wembley yesterday.
His former teammate and good friend Paul Hurst was managing the Millers opposition Shrewsbury Town and was obviously disappointed with the end result.
Speaking to Shrewsbury’s Official Site after the two-one Millers win, Hursty said, ‘We didn’t get that fairy tail ending we wanted.
‘I thought once we equalised we had a better spell.
‘I’m extremely proud of the group of players that I’ve got.
‘Congratulations to Warne, Richy and the rest of the lads and Rotherham football club. The three teams that came down have gone back up.’
Both Managers said before the game that although they’d be disappointed if they lost, they would congratulate their friend after the match. Warne and Hurst were having little conversations during the game which would come as natural to them as watching their teams play.
But it could be that the two former teammates do meet again in the Championship next season with Hursty being linked with the vacant managerial job at Ipswich Town, though he, rightly, refused to talk about it yesterday.
