Two In For Weekend?

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne is hoping to have a new face or new faces in before the weekend game against Ipswich Town.

The Millers went to the Etihad yesterday under a bit of an injury cloud, only being able to name six substitutes one of who they knew wouldn’t be used and one who pulled up in the warm-up. Added to that the suspension to Richie Towell and things are looking a bit grim.

Warney told Radio Sheffield that he’s not sure how long Joe Newell is going to be out but expects Billy Jones to be fit for the coming weekend.

‘I think we need help in the middle of the park,’ Warney admitted after the FA Cup loss to Manchester City.

‘I met someone last night (Saturday),’ Warne carried on, ‘and he really wants to come and I’m meeting someone tomorrow (Monday) and hopefully that will be done by the weekend.

‘If I get these two I’m after then I’ll be really pleased.’

I think when Ryan Manning was recalled by his parent club Queens Park Rangers it was obvious that we needed to get a midfielder in. I’ve seen where people are wanting us to fetch a striker or forwards in but, in my mind (and it is only my feelings) we need to shore up that defence and get a holding midfielder in – the latter, if we insist on playing one up front, the more imperative.

I think we could do with more than two in to be honest – defenders, midfield and, if the other strikers are going to keep getting injured, someone to help Smith up top
