Took A While For Players To Gel

Both Rotherham United and Wigan Athletic made nine changes from the weekends league games for this evenings Carabao Cup first round tie at the New York Stadium.

Rotherham United handed debuts to Clark Robertson and Sean Raggett while giving Ben Wiles and Billy Jones their first starts and having a number of youngsters on the bench.

Paul Cook handed debuts to Leo Da Silva Lopes and Kal Naismith while he had a number of his U18’s and Development Squad players on the bench.

All those changes obviously took time for both sides to get to know one another and that’s probably why it wasn’t the most exciting starts to a game. For the first twenty minutes or so you could have mistaken it for a training game or pre-season friendly but I thought the Millers got into the game and were the better in the first half while Wigan probably edged the second half. I know Paul Warne is still looking out for midfielders and I do think we are sadly lacking there.

A bit like Saturday’s game against Ipswich this evenings visitors had more shots on goal and more corners than the Millers, but again, it’s goals that count and Rotherham scored two more than Wigan.
