Today’s Stats – Millers v Chairboys

Rotherham United’s dismal home form continued this afternoon when bottom placed Wycombe Wanderers went away from the New York Stadium with all three points in the bag and a three-nil win.

The Millers had the better of the possession with the stats coming out at sixty-two per cent to Wanderers thirty-eight. We were also better in the duels stakes successfully winning sixty per cent in the air and fifty-four per cent around the pitch. We also had six corners to the Chairboys two.

Sadly, what we didn’t have was more goals.

Passing accuracy in our opponents half came out at sixty-two per cent, crossing accuracy at thirty-two per cent and we won sixty-nine per cent of our tackles. We conceded fourteen fouls to Wycombe’s seventeen with the visitors getting two yellow cards to our one. (I think referee James Linington was very generous not giving more cards for time wasting).

So you will forgive me for being disappointed when I say we had nineteen shots at goal – nineteen of which seven were on target yet not one goal. Wycombe had five on target from eleven shots and scored three times.

We changed our format a bit, starting with four at the back (well, that obviously didn’t work as we did seem to get in each others way a little) and we started the game alright despite going one down in ninety seconds and even at two down we did look the better side and were getting into their box.

But we just can’t score.

In the second half we changed it again having three at the back and played wingers (OK, wing backs but really wingers) but we let Wycombe dictate the game. We played poor in the final forty-five minutes and didn’t have any answers to a team starting the day five points behind us and odds on to go down.

It needs addressing, that second half showing wasn’t good enough, and then we have to put it behind us and get on with the rest of this very busy month.
