Three Or Four In by Next Week?

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne says that he hopes it won’t happen but is preparing to lose two players before the season begins.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield from Hungary where the team are at a training camp, the Millers Boss is hoping to have three or four new players in by next week, one he is very close to signing and is awaiting a medical. ‘We are also pretty close to a midfielder and I’ve improved a bid on a defender and a utility player. To improve on our starting eleven is difficult and all players have to be affordable and available and the ones we are trying to get in are as close to it, for us, as I can make.’

Asked about players going out, Warney said that there was a lot of interest in both Matt Crooks and Michael Smith, and it sounds, to me, that if either of them are likely to move on it’s Crooks with Warney saying, ‘there has been a conversation between clubs but at the moment he is still our player. I can see other players, if they aren’t buying into this season or feel their careers are elsewhere we won’t stand in their way but also we won’t just open the door and let them leave but I do expect a couple of outgoings.

‘In my head if we lose two players I think we need four or five in, if we don’t lose two then we probably need three in.’
