This time next week Rodney . . . the Millers could actually be top of League One! Mind you, all the other teams would have to draw or only win by the odd goal and Rotherham United would have to win by a clear margin but, you know, stranger things than that etc etc.
It’s been a busy week down at the New York Stadium. Rotherham United have drawn their two home friendly games – both against higher opposition – the first on Tuesday night against West Bromwich Albion and the other against a Leicester City side. Both games were good workouts for the Millers with a lot of players getting minutes on the pitch.
After, what seems to us fans, a long wait we finally got a number one when Daniel Iversen joined on a season long loan from Leicester City. He was followed on Wednesday by midfielder Jamie Lindsay from Ross County for an undisclosed figure on a three-year deal.
On Monday there were rumours surfacing saying that Kyle Vassell was joining Salford City and that both QPR and Sheffield Wednesday were both showing an interest in Clark Robertson with Millers Boss Paul Warne saying ‘I wouldn’t believe everything you hear’.
The Irish Mirror was expecting midfielder Trevor Clarke from Shamrock Rovers to sign for the Millers either on Friday or Saturday – it’s now Sunday and that hasn’t happened as yet but could still be in the pipeline. Warne has also hinted that the club won’t be pursuing Blackpool’s Curtis Tilt but he told The Advertiser that he would be putting a bid in for a central defender with the name on everyone’s lips being that of Leyton Orient’s Marvin Ekpiteta.
So, it could be that before the opening game of the season away at AFC Wimbledon next Saturday there could be two more new names on the squad list. It could also be that there won’t be any. Whichever happens I think our recruiting has been excellent this summer. So many ‘crucial’ players left the club and yet the new lads appear to have settled in well with one or two of them certainly catching my eye this week in the friendly games.
As I said, ‘this time next week’ . . . . but then, if I’m honest, although I’d be ecstatic with three points I’d be very happy with just one. How about you?
Am going for a winning start to the new season at Wimbledon for the millers! AFC Wimbledon 0 Rotherham united 2 ????
Ohhhhh – I want to say, yes me too, but won’t because I’m a bit superstitious!

With everyone bu – erm – leaving in the summer I think Rob Scott etc have done great with the new signings. And if we can keep Vas fit that would only be a bonus.
