The Stats – Millers v The O’s

Rotherham United fell to a second-half goal defeat on Tuesday night to Leyton Orient – but what do the stats tell us?

In possession it was pretty even with the hosts having fifty-one per cent of possession with the Millers having eleven shots of which two were on target and four were blocked. Orient had five on target from twelve shots. Cameron Dawson was busier of the two ‘keepers making four saves, which was twice as many as Josh Keeley in the home goal.

Our passing accuracy came out at sixty-one percent which was five per cent less than the O’s and of the eleven corners the Millers had eight. Rotherham also had seventeen touches in the box, the O’s four less.  We won fifty-five per cent of the aerial duels and won sixty per cent of our tackles.  

The Millers committed fourteen fouls, winning eleven, Orient winning twelve from twelve with two of the three yellow cards going to the hosts.

When Orient scored their goal, from a set-piece, there were at least five blue shirts in the box yet Dan Happe was allowed to head the ball without any movement from our players. We just don’t seem to be able to defend free-kicks. Meanwhile, at the opposite end, I’ve stopped getting excited when we get free-kicks.

We can – and do – play football but either we get down the pitch and there’s nobody to collect or our passing in the box isn’t on the mark.

But, we go again on Saturday – though I do wonder if fans will start voting with their feet.
