The Stats – Millers v Swans

Another loss for the Millers on the road – albeit only by one goal – but what do the stats tell us about our game on Saturday against Swansea City.

Possession went to the hosts who got seventy-one per cent with the Millers just clinching the duels success rate and the aerial duels won came out at fifty-fifty. There were a dozen corners in the game, all going to the Swans.

The Millers passing accuracy in their opponents half was fifty-one per cent, twenty-two per cent less than the hosts while Rotherham only had four crosses in the whole game (which I find hard to think of).

In attack City had sixteen shots on goal, six on target while Rotherham had four shots, two from inside the box, none of which were on target.

Our tackle success rate came out at ninety-two per cent, twenty-eight per cent more than Swansea and we made thirty clearances to their six. We conceded nine tackles, one less than City, with the home side getting three of the five yellow cards.

As for much of the rest of the season the stats from yesterday aren’t the best. Stats don’t lie they say but do they tell the whole truth? They don’t see work done off the ball, they don’t see that players have had two away games in less than three days, they don’t hear the fans urging the players on despite already being down. All in all it’s not the stats that win you a game it’s getting the ball in the net – no shots on target says it all.
