Rotherham United began their Bristol Street Motors Trophy season with a two-nil win over Mansfield Town at the New York Stadium – but it was anything but easy as the stats will tell us.
The Millers had nine shots at goal, two on target which went in and three that were blocked while Mansfield had seven on target from twenty nine shots the Millers blocking seven of those.
Possession wise the Stags had seventy-three per cent possession to the Millers twenty-seven and Town had thirty-four touches in the box to Rotherham’s fourteen. Aerial duels went eighteen-fourteen the Stags way while of the sixteen corners five went to the hosts.
The Millers gave away thirteen fouls, five more than the visitors and while there were two yellow cards each Rotherham went down to ten men on the sixty-ninth minute with a straight red for Alex MacDonald.
It wasn’t a pretty game for the Millers and we were often on the back foot but I’m hoping that this win will boost confidence for the trip to Wycombe on Saturday.
