The Stats – Millers v Sky Blues

Rotherham United were outplayed, outrun and outscored by Coventry City last night – but what do the stats tell us?

Firstly they say that the Millers had (surprisingly in my mind) forty-seven per cent of the possession. We actually won fifty-seven per cent of the aerial duels with City winning fifty-one per cent of the overall duels.

Of the nine corners we won five of them with our passing accuracy in our opponents half being sixty-five per cent, the hosts having twelve per cent more. Our passing accuracy overall was five per cent less than City’s at eighty per cent.

In attack we had seven shots at goal, six of those from inside the box, with one on target. Coventry had six shots on target from sixteen.

Defence wise our tackle rate was sixty-three per cent with us having sixteen tackles to City’s eleven. We conceded nineteen fouls, ten more than our opponents, with the only yellow of the night going to a Rotherham player.

This season was always going to be tough. We hadn’t a lot of money for players, those we already had were injury prone with some we signed the same. We let a manager go without having another waiting in the wings to step into his shoes. I think we have to realise that we are playing in the Championship and these things aren’t going to maintain that.

I was a little surprised at the stats from last night. Yes, we were marginally better in the second half, but not anywhere near what I expect our best to be.  I thought we’d have gone out and tried to win the second half but I don’t think we did.

We have shipped forty-two goals this season with only one team doing worse than us – and they are in the Premier League.

But, nobody ever said that being a Millers was going to be easy.
