The Stats – Millers v Shrews

|

Rotherham United had their heaviest home defeat of the season yesterday against Shrewsbury Town but what do the stats tell us?

We actually had forty-four per cent of the possession, which surprises me a little and we won fifty-nine per cent of our ariel duels, which doesn’t surprise me as the ball was in the air for most of the game. Shrewsbury had seven corners to our six while our passing accuracy in our opponents half came out as fifty-one per cent while our visitors got forty-seven per cent.

Attack wise Rotherham had twelve shots at goal, eleven of those coming from inside the box, two of which were on target. Shrewsbury had ten shots on target from eighteen with fourteen shots coming from inside the box.

We conceded five fouls to the Shrews eleven and there were four yellow cards shown with just one of those to a Rotherham player but the one red card also went to a player in red and white.

You know we are top of the league and I do wonder, as fans, if we ask too much of our players? They’ve had a lot of games lately and the prospect of being fit for Wembley must play on their minds. We’ve been looking ropey for a number of weeks now, but we all kept saying a team playing badly and still getting the points is the sign of a winning team. Well, that sign definitely wasn’t there today.

We can blame tiredness, we can blame the pitch, we can blame Breck’s red gloves (really need to give them a wash to get the losing streak out of them!) and our manager is blaming himself. So, let’s get twenty-four hours of blaming whoever we want out of the way, take a break, go to Wembley and (hopefully) put in a good performance then take that into the last few games of the league season and get back to winning ways.

And remember a football team is not for only supporting when they are doing well.

Up The Millers.
