The Stats – Millers v Reading

Rotherham United were four-nil winners in the blazing sun at the New York Stadium yesterday afternoon Reading being on the end of the ‘thumping’.

But the Millers didn’t have it all their own way with the visitors having the better of the possession with fifty-two per cent. They also won out in the duel success rate winning fifty-eight per cent in the air.

The Millers had five corners with the Royals having two more. Our passing in our opponents half came out at fifty-two per cent, Readings ten per cent more. Rotherham had eleven shots at goal, ten of those inside the box and four on target while our visitors had twelve shots at goal of which six were on target – which a good defence and some great ‘keeping kept out.

We had nineteen tackles to their twenty and conceded five fouls to Reading’s eight. There were two yellow cards shown, both to Reading players.

So, four goals at the New York Stadium and all scored by us.  It could have been more – also Reading did rally and could have scored and we might have been biting our finger nails, but they didn’t so we didn’t have to.  And, could I just mention the referee Steve Martin who didn’t fall for any ‘falling over’, didn’t give free-kicks when the game could carry on – credible performance sir.

As I write this we are in eighth place in the Championship with four points and a game in hand of those around us. Not a bad start to the new season me thinks we’ve just got to keep it up now!
