The Stats – Millers v Preston North End

Rotherham United got their second home win of the season yesterday afternoon beating Preston North End two-one at a foggy New York Stadium.

The visitors had most of the possession – fifty-six per cent to forty-four – and were better in the duels with the stats saying they won sixty-two per cent of the aerial duels while the Millers had three corners to the Lilywhites two.

There wasn’t much to chose between the two when it came to the passing in the opponents half although Rotherham’s crossing accuracy came out at nineteen per cent to Preston North End’s thirteen.

Rotherham had eleven shots at goal of which four were on target with the visitors having three on target from eight shots and the Millers total of shots inside the box was seven to Preston’s five.

Defensively the tackles stats say that North End had twenty to the Millers’ twelve with Rotherham conceding fifteen fouls to Preston’s thirteen while the yellow cards went two-one to the visitors.

Isn’t it a nice feeling waking up on a Sunday morning to know that your team played well and got what they deserved – three points. On his debut in goal Viktor Johansson made quite a good impression on me and it was good to see Matt Olosunde getting his first start of the season and likewise Kyle Vassell. Richard Wood was back with the skippers armband and Kieran Sadlier was also in the starting eleven for the first time since the beginning of October – though he only lasted twenty-three minutes, and let’s hope that’s not a long injury.

I was expecting Preston to start off on the front foot and beat us into submission. How pleased am I to say I was wrong. I do believe we were the better side and, yes, there were mistakes but they were mistakes we managed to rectify. I admit we looked tired towards the end but we held on. And you really can’t ask for more than that.
