The Stats – Millers v Pompey

Rotherham United scored four goals yesterday, three of them coming in the second half, to overcome Portsmouth four-one at the New York Stadium.

But what do those stats tell us?

Possession wise they say that our visitors had fifty-five per cent to the Millers forty-five but our success in the duels comes out at fifty-six per cent and we won sixty-seven per cent of the aerial duels. We also got the better of the seven corners in the game winning four of them.

Our passing accuracy in our opponents half was sixty-one per cent with our crossing accuracy coming out as twenty-six per cent to the nine per cent that Pompey got. Both teams conceded fourteen fouls with box sides have two players yellow carded.

Attack wise we had fourteen shots at goal, eleven of those being inside the box, ten of them on target with Portsmouth having three on target from seven shots.

Despite us going in at half-time in front I did think that Portsmouth just edged being the better side and kept on being that until they scored. But once we re-took the lead it looked like there was only going to be one team who got more goals – and that was Rotherham, which, of course, we did.  To be honest I think, once we started running at them Portsmouth hadn’t an answer.

We’ve now got to rub those tired legs, sort out the injuries and get ready for another stiff test on Tuesday night when second placed Wycombe are in town.
