Rotherham United let in three goals away at Portsmouth – two from ex-players – to make it three league defeats in a row.
But what do those stats tell us?
Firstly the Millers had fifty-four per cent of the possession and I actually think in that possession at times we looked dangerous, but the last ball let us down or the cross didn’t get there or went straight to the goalkeeper. There were nine corners in the game, five of those being for the hosts and Pompey won sixty-three per cent of the aerial duels.
The Millers passing accuracy in their opponents half came out at fifty-seven per cent although our crossing accuracy just seven per cent. In attack Pompey had ten shots at goal of which six were on target while Rotherham had just one shot on target from nine. Both sides had six shots from inside the box.
In defence our tackle rate was ninety-two per cent with both sides conceding seventeen fouls. Five yellow cards were shown, three of those going to Rotherham.
I’ll be honest I wasn’t as deflated as I was on Saturday although we really do need to have some target practice. Some of our crossing from free-kicks and corners I felt was poor although some of our crosses in play were OK. And I really do think we should be making more of Chieo Ogbene’s and Jordi Osei-Tutu’s pace.
We aren’t out of it yet but we do need to get wins starting on Saturday in front of the TV cameras.
