The Stats – Millers v Imps

Rotherham United came away from Sincil Bank with all three points after a Matt Crooks goal early in the second half proved the winner.

The stats tell us that Lincoln City had more of the possession that the Millers and I think that is true, particularly in the first half although they also tell us that we got the better of the duels. That, I believe, is also true. We might have given a couple of sloppy passes away last night but we always fought and won the ball back – none other than makeshift left-back Ben Wiles (though I do wonder how long I’ll be using the word ‘makeshift’).

Not many corners last night – three to one in favour of the Millers – with Rotherham having fifteen shots at goal of which three were on target while the Imps had two on target from seven shots. Both sides had fifty-three per cent accuracy of passing in the opponents half while Lincoln came out the better in crossing.

The hosts got two yellow cards to our one (Michael Smith in time added on) with the Millers, apparently, giving away twenty fouls to City’s nine. As I’ve said before if falling down when a player comes within a foot of you constitutes a foul then there are going to be a lot aren’t there!

I heard some Lincoln fans, as we left the ground, saying that Rotherham were a ‘dirty’ side and ‘physical’. Read my sentence above about the ‘dirty’ bit but if by physical they mean jumping and fighting to get the ball then, yeah, that’s what gets you promoted.
