A very tired looking but happy Matt Taylor was pleased to have got his targets into Rotherham United yesterday.

Both Bailey Wright and Domingos Quina brought the January signings to seven with just one leaving the club and a handful of others going out on loan.

After saying earlier yesterday that two he thought were coming in didn’t happen the club announced both Wright and Quina had signed in between 7.30pm and 10pm with Taylor saying that both players will add ‘something different’ on the pitch.

Speaking to the Official Site the Millers Boss said that any player who comes here has to be hungry saying, ‘They have to improve where they are in terms of their careers, they have to improve their opportunities to get game time but they have to make it work. In terms of the pedigree in the players we’ve brought in we are pleased with what we’ve got.’

Speaking about Quina, who has come on loan from Watford, Matt said that he didn’t have to sell the area to him as he’d been at Barnsley last season with Matt saying, ‘he knows about the weather, the circumstances, the people and knows we are working men’s club, roll your sleeves up, get stuck in.

‘He can play in midfield, play central and wide areas and beat players one v one. He’s another player to add to our attacking play while adding the balance to the team. There can also be an unpredictable nature to his game so he’s still a work in progress but hopefully we can continue to fine tune some bits and pieces and put that profile to good use.’

Arriving a couple of hours earlier the Boss was just as enthusiastic about Sunderland loanee Bailey Wright who is at the other spectrum of his career with Matt saying, ‘His profile was right for us.’ It looks certain that Bailey is here to fill the Sean Morrison role who looks to be out for some time after getting an injury in a friendly game. ‘First and foremost he’s a character. He’s a winner, a competitor and someone who will put his body on the line and add calmness. He’s played an awful lot of games at Championship level and he’s someone who will add to what we are trying to achieve as a defensive unit.’

I’ll admit I’m a bit blown away with this January window. I usually say ‘the dreaded January window’ but it’s certainly not been that this year. It’s like, what it should be, a new year, a new beginning. And the Boss was right when he said, ‘Our fans appreciate hard work and effort and, I think it’s fair to say, our fans are excited about what’s to come.’ Because I am. What about you?

On paper, it looks like Matt Taylor has got it right in the transfer window, and hopefully we can kick on and have a successful second half to our season. Only time will tell, but I for one wish him well.
