Stats Time – Millers v Rochdale

Rotherham United were on the end of a one-nil home defeat yesterday to Brian Barry-Murphy’s Rochdale.

To be honest this wasn’t one of the better games I’ve seen this season – it was more like one of those games where, at the end, you think ‘thank goodness that’s over’ or words to that effect.

We went one down just before the break and this time there was no coming back’s, no last minute goals, no ‘rabbits pulled out of hats’ as the Gaffer put it.

I found myself thinking we probably got what we deserved yet did we have enough chances to win that game? Actually we did have more of the possession and our passing accuracy in the opponents half comes out at fifty-four per cent. The Millers also had twelve shots at goal, six of which were on target to Dales two on target from seven shots. So, I suppose the answer to ‘did we do enough to win the game’ is probably ‘yes’.

In his post-match interview Paul Warne said that ‘we need to get the first goal’ and I agree wholeheartedly with that. We have to be on the front foot from the off, we have to show our intent from kick-off, we can’t keep going one or two behind and hoping to come back – because it doesn’t always work as we found out yesterday.

Away at Southend next week who are sitting in the bottom three and after going two up away at Bristol Rovers yesterday lost four-two – will we get something from this game? I’d like to think so.
