Stats – Rotherham United v Plymouth Argyle

The game at Home Park yesterday was a two-one win for the hosts but, for Millers fans, will probably be more remembered for two disallowed goals and a dubious penalty.

Rotherham had a goal disallowed in each half – the first when David Ball, to be fair, probably was off-side but the second was as Warney says ‘a nasal hair poking past the last opposition defender’.

The penalty in time added on. Always dangerous for a defender to slide into a tackle in the penalty area, I would think nine times out of ten a penalty will be given. I think if the ref had had VAR he might have thought about his decision again and not given anything.

But, that’s football isn’t it – swings and roundabouts and bloomin’ officials.

All in all the Millers had enough chances to get at least a point, if not all three. And, it doesn’t really matter as we are already in the play-offs. But you want to go into those play-offs, against whoever your opponent is, on the back of a good run. And we really shouldn’t be going one-up away from home and not getting something from the game.

Rotherham’s final game of the season, before the play-offs, is a home game when Blackpool are the visitors to the New York Stadium. We should get something, we’re at home and flying high – but with nothing to play for Blackpool are on a run of five games without defeat so Saturday might not be as easy as we think.
