Rotherham United will be very disappointed to have come away from the Madejski Stadium empty handed yesterday after losing three-nil to top of the table Reading.

The Millers undoubtedly had the majority of the game with the stats showing that we had sixty-three per cent possession and ten shots to the hosts seven although of those seven the Royals had six on target to Rotherham’s two.

Rotherham were slightly better in the duels – having had fifty-one per cent success and won fifty-six per cent of the aerial duels as well as having five corners which was one more than our opposition.

Our passing accuracy was better with us having sixty-seven per cent accuracy in our opponents half and completed four hundred and ninety-three passes to Reading’s two hundred and eighty-seven.

Stats for fouls conceded say that Rotherham had thirteen to the hosts nine and the Millers had two players yellow carded while Reading didn’t have any.

All in all, yes, we played well, yes we had lots and lots of possession but what exactly did we do with it?  It’s definitely something to work on and, on reflection, maybe there should have been some shots from outside the box instead of passes.   A note about the subs,  I think they were positive changes – were they the right changes?  With who we had on the bench I do think we had to go for it.

A long trip home when it probably should have been happy will have been the opposite I would have thought. Now we have to put the score line behind us and concentrate on Wednesday night when our neighbours are coming a-calling.
