Rotherham United’s Carabao Cup competition came to an abrupt end yesterday afternoon after losing on penalties away at Salford City.
The stats tell us that it was the Millers who had the majority of the game – sixty per cent to forty and had fourteen shots at goal (five on target) to the Ammies two. But it was probably a tale of two ‘keepers with City’s Vaclav Hladky keeping Rotherham at bay practically single handed while the Millers’ ‘keeper Jamal Blackman, who in fairness had had little to do, gave away a penalty on eighty-four minutes to give the hosts the lead a goalmouth scramble in the fifth minute of time added on seeing Matt Crooks get the equaliser that sent the tie to penalties.
Rotherham also had the better of the corners having nine to Salford’s three while our passing and throw-ins were better than Salford City won sixteen aerial challenges which was one more than the Millers and, of course, were better at penalties than us.
Once again, and I really am beginning to sound like a broken record now, we have to really start to put those chances away.
