Six Clubs Become ‘United’ In Finishing Season

Six League One teams have become ‘united’ in wanting to finish the 2019/20 season after it was cruelly halted by the coronavirus in March.

Fleetwood Town, Ipswich Town, Oxford United, Portsmouth and Sunderland appear to have elected Peterborough Chairman Darragh MacAnthony as their spokesman with him telling social media that the six clubs are ‘United in our goal to finish this season’.

Mr MacAnthony went on to say that the six clubs do not want ‘a computer to decide their fate’ and they are ‘looking forward to completing our pending fixtures/season under the guidance of the EFL when it is deemed safe to do so.’

I realise that Mr MacAnthony is speaking for six clubs in League One but I do wonder if he is speaking for the players at the six clubs who will surely be thinking of their own safety at this time. Players won’t want to be ‘going in for tackles’ in case they end up on the floor together meaning sweat could be passed on easily and should one of those players unknowingly have the virus then . . . .

I also wonder if Mr MacAnthony would be doing this if he was top of the League by five points with a game in hand aka Coventry City? I have my doubts.

But, saying that, if these six teams are happy to take on the EFL then so be it – it could get very interesting, or it could get very silly. And it takes on a whole new meaning for ‘soccer six’ doesn’t it.

Stay Safe.

Up The Millers.
