Rotherham United’s Semi Ajay has been nominated for the January Sky Bet Championship Goal of the Month for his goal at the New York Stadium against Leeds United.
The twenty-five year old’s goal, which he walloped into the back of the net from some twenty yards out, gave the Millers a twenty-eight minute lead against the then league leaders. Alas, it didn’t last and the visitors scored twice in the second half to take all three points back to Elland Road.
After the game the Millers fans were praising Semi’s goal, some saying it was the best one scored (yet) at the New York Stadium – and this from a player who firstly was only deemed fifty-fifty to start as he was suffering with a knee injury and secondly wasn’t playing in his usual position.
The other nominees are Queens Park Rangers’ Luke Freeman and Freddie Sears of Ipswich both for goals against Aston Villa.
