Rotherham United`s returning defender Richard Wood thought the Millers were solid in defence against Middlesbrough on Saturday.

Speaking after the two-nil defeat Richard, who was called back from his loan spell with Crawley earlier in the week, told MillersPlayer, ‘They are a very good team who are looking to get into the next league but I thought we did well first half. Defensively we looked solid but it was disappointing that we didn’t have much of the ball.

‘When it was still nil-nil they were getting edgier and edgier but we conceded a quick goal in the second half and that gave them a lift. Then they got the second and it was game over.

‘If we could have hung on and kept a clean sheet until the last twenty minutes I think they`d have found the finish tense which would have worked in our favour.

‘I think we were frustrating them in the first half and, against a team like this, I think that was very good.`

Saying it had been a strange week for him, the twenty-nine year old explained about his return. ‘I got the call Wednesday,` Richard said, ‘and trained quite well Thursday and Friday. And then I got the nod to play which I`m obviously happy about.

‘I was injured the early part of the season so the loan with Crawley has worked out quite well for me. No disrespect to Crawley but they had Scunthorpe away today and I’ve turned up at Middlesbrough and I`m pleased to be back playing in these sorts of games.

‘There`s four massive games to go now and I just want to be a part of them. We need a real squad effort now to help us stay in this league. We need to focus on ourselves now starting on Wednesday against Fulham.`
