Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne says he’s not surprised that Chesterfield want defender Richard Wood.

Rumours have been circulating that the thirty-two year old is wanted by the League Two side with the Millers Boss telling Radio Sheffield the Millers Boss said, ‘Woody is a brilliant leader. He’s great in the dressing room, a good captain and excellent in both boxes.

‘He’s been really good for me and I’m in no rush to get rid of him and he’s not knocked on my door saying he wants to leave.

‘But it doesn’t surprise me that Chesterfield have been linked with him and potentially, I could see where it would be a good move for him. But, at the moment he’s my player and, as it stands at the moment, he’s in my squad for the weekend.’

Richard Wood has had a bit of an up/down time since joining the Millers in June 2014. Under other Managers he had injuries and got sent out on loan, one of those loan spells being with Chesterfield. This season he’s played in twenty-two games for Rotherham scoring the winner away at Rochdale in October. He started the game on New Years Day against Blackburn and played part in the four games before that. I’d be surprised if Wood goes anywhere until a suitable replacement is found – and even then, Warney may want to keep ‘an old head’ in the dressing room.
